dbTwang Trading Post – Guitars for sale

One of the nice elements of the new site is a forum – and the ability to facilitate discussion and trading in there.

The first four guitars to be offered for sale are all up:
1973 Gibson SG II

1974/75 Gibson L-5S

1963 Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman model 6122

1954 Gibson J-50

enjoy the haggling!

dbTwang Guardian – protect your guitars from theft

It was great to be able to launch Guardian yesterday.

We truly believe that it will make a substantial difference to the recovery of stolen guitars. It tackles the low rate of recovery (estimated at under 3%) in a number of ways:

1. By allowing a subscriber to easily record details of their guitars in a structured and secure way. Up to 80 fields of information on each guitar and up to 25 high resolution photos
At present we estimate that only 4% of guitars which are listed as stolen have both a serial number and good photography – making it really difficult to find them.
2. By offering a One Click alert service if a subscriber is unfortunate enough to loose a guitar – this makes the details available on a multiplicity of sites across the internet:

and on the relevant forums for that make/model

Having launched the service we will now be working to constantly improve it – and cooperating with others in this space globally to constantly make life more difficult for guitar thieves.

Scott Pilgrim Competition

In the midst of angst around getting the last of our merchant account/payment processing set up we were given the chance to help out with the promotion of a movie.

Not just any movie – but the new one from the director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Both much enjoyed in dbTwang HQ.  Scott Pilgrim V The World has a guitar connection :-)

as does the competition with the chance to attend an indie-rock festival: To celebrate the release of SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, Universal are offering an epic holiday to Toronto, Canada, where the movie was shot on location. One winner and friend will be attending Toronto’s hottest Indie-Rock music festival (June 13-19, 2011) and visiting the locations of Scott Pilgrim.

Enter here: http://apps.facebook.com/spxchallenge/

Good luck – and now back to work. Here is the movie poster btw.

Incomplete snapshot of where dbTwang members live

We sent out one of our regular email newsletters yesterday and through the stats on Mailchimp we can see where in the world the members who open the newsletter live.

The following countries are represented on the reports for that email and the one we did on the 31st May:

South America:
* Columbia
* Brazil

Europe:
* Ireland
* UK
* Portugal
* Spain
* France
* Belgium
* Netherlands
* Germany
* Italy
* Greece
* Latvia
* Poland
* Denmark
* Sweden
* Norway
* Luxembourg
* Switzerland
* Bulgaria
* Cyprus

Asia:
* China
* Thailand
* India

* Israel

* Hong Kong

Australasia:
* Australia
* New Zealand

North America:
* USA
* Canada
* Mexico

Great spread which shows the global appeal of the guitar – and despite our content and marketing only being presented in English. For those of you who are interested this is what a drill down onto the USA looks like – with the light grey being States we are not represented in (taken from 31st May report).

Results of yesterdays poll: From Scratch and FB dominate

We ran a quick poll across both dbTwang members and also out into twitter and facebook yesterday – asking how people prefer to set up a new online account if given the choice. Here is the result of that:

Nearly 80% were evenly divided between starting from scratch and using their Facebook account while an additional 14% would use their Google account.

That suggests a service like RPX from Janrain would be useful – it manages the integration of multiple login options.

Thanks to everyone who took part.

New for dbTwang members – Win an i-Tab and €100 worth of Tabs each month

With Charles Campbell happily looking forward to having his i-Tab in his hands we want to share some more out with you.From the iheartguitar review “it was really cool to see just how easily this handy little device can be operated. It’s also super handy that it can be easily stowed in a gig bag or guitar case for whipping out when the singalong mood takes you”

Invite a Friend
One of the great results of the recent member survey for us was the large number of you whom have invited friends into dbTwang – thanks so much for doing that. It is a great way for us to grow and we want to reward the most active of you for helping us to spread the word.

In the top menu under dbTwang there is an Invite a Friend function:

Using that allows us to track how many people you have invited – and how many of those invites have been taken up.

For the next 2 months we are going to run a competition where the person each month who invites the most friends in will win an i-Tab and a €100 voucher to spend on Tabs to use with it.

Only 2 conditions (small ones!).

* They have to respond to the invite and actually become a member
* They have to put up a guitar.

Thats it – we are looking forward to giving away a couple more of those wonderful guitar gadgets :-)

Fintan

Thanks to the guys in i-Tab

We are running a member survey next Monday and wanted a small something to say thanks to anyone who completed it.

The guys in i-Tab, who are based in Ireland and whom we caught up with most recently during their very successful launch at NAMM, graciously gave us one of their upcoming i-Tabs to give away.

Fintan got to try one when we visited the i-Tab HQ in November last year and he wants one – a lot. He can’t have this one though :-)

dbTwangs first T-Shirt, by Matt W. Moore

Matt is a graphic artist based in Portland, Maine and works across disciplines from colorful digital illustrations in his signature “Vectorfunk” style, to freeform watercolor paintings, and massive aerosol murals.

A couple of years ago we were lucky enough to be able to commission a guitar based piece from him and since then he has gone on to work with companies like Diesel, Nike, Adidas, Burton, Etnies, Google and Wired Mag! You can see more on Matt here.

This is what he came up with:

We loved it and use it in the background on our home page and also on our twitter page.

Now you can share it with us – our very first T-Shirt features Matt’s illustration on the front and the dbTwang logo on the arm. It is available here: http://dbtwang.spreadshirt.ie/

Welcome your feedback on this – we would love to develop more products using some marvelous guitar based work that we have come across.
