With Summer fast approaching and the skys over Europe looking decidedly unreliable with what has become the regular volcanic grounding of flights at the last minute; I am assuming I am not the only one thinking of taking my summer hols this year somewhere I can travel to overland.
In thinking about it I have realised that this could actually be quite a good thing and certainly the one feature of all my recent trips abroad that I will be delighted to forego has been the all too regular mugging you get when trying to fly with anything other than microscopic carry-on luggage – with one or two airlines in particular seeming to take the opportunity to terrorize you and your wallet with such glee that I quite expect to be directed to a dark ally out the back of the terminal if wanting to check-in a suitcase! – I’m sure you can guess who I mean!
So enuff of the rant, my point is this: all of a sudden my luggage allowance is as much as the boot of my car can hold and so the opportunity arises to take not just my trusty Martin D28, for those fun beach party sing alongs (or the more likely, run through of the hits of the 70′s, sitting on the corner of the bed in the B&B while waiting for the Cornish monsoon season to pass) but maybe the old Telecaster and an amp instead. The more I think of it the more I like the idea but there’s a problem… my smallest amp is a pretty hefty combo and even with a spacious boot capacity taking it would mean leaving behind other essential vacation items such as bucket & spade or my very beautiful co-driver.

So I’ve been casting an eye over what’s out there in the line of mini or practice amps and have come across ZT Amplifiers Lunchbox, at $350ish it’s not the cheapest but it looks very well put together and would nearly fit in the glove compartment. The specs are here but before I go ahead and place an order I thought I’d just see if anyone reading this has used one or can recommend an alternative? All opinions will be gratefully received.
