dbTwang

Week 2 of dbTwang Alpha (very early version)

Quick update on what Fintan and myself are up to with dbTwang right now.

The very early users are in (as you can see from the previous post on Manufacturers) and they are helping us take the empty look off the guitar database and make the beta version ready for the nearly 800 of you who are waiting to come in. I have just sent out an email to those 800 telling them that their wait is nearly over!

Fintan is working closely with the developers of the site to make a couple of final adjustments and tweaks. A new version with those changes will be available to that early group of users tomorrow (Wednesday 1st September).

He is also working with a good friend of his to prepare the manufacturer and model drop-downs in preparation for the flood of guitars coming our way.

That’s it for the moment. I will get into the habit of posting here more often as the rhythm of the beta settles down.

9 Manufacturers in first guitars uploaded

The very first users are actively putting up guitars in dbTwang and helping us get ready for the larger numbers who will be coming in shortly when the beta invitations go out.

This chart shows the representation of 9 different manufacturers – including some great rare and hand made names such as a Gurian, an AJ Lucas and a Kent Everett. We have also got one home made which does not feature below!

Manufacturers at 31 August

We will run this every month and see how it changes as the number of users increases.

Logo changes as part of the design process

We had the same logo for ages – the one underneath this paragraph which did nicely while we prepared to raise our initial funding and start the development of the service.

Our new logo was done by Matt Dempsey – the designer who is also working on V1 of thedbTwang service. Here it is – less colour and more guitar related details.

UPDATE: The final version as seen below incorporated a couple of final tweaks.

Hope you like it, we both do!

Guitar Royalty – John Martyn RIP

John Martyn

We were sad and shocked to hear of John’s passing today, details are not out as yet but for sure he left far earlier than he should have.

John very generously gave us some of his time and advice quite recently and it was invaluable for us to get feeback on dbTwang from real guitar royalty.

No doubt there will be many tributes to his genius over the coming days but we’ll remember John relaxed and talking easily about the guitars he had played and the fellow musicians he had met along the way.
